About BlackLite Knives

BlackLite Knives is a small veteran owned and operated shop based out of Michigan. It all started a few years ago in 2017 when i met a knife maker on a fishing trip, we talked for a while and after that i said to myself “how hard can it be” i should be able to do that. the answer is very easy and then very hard. it’s very easy to make a metal, knife shaped, sharp stick. and then its very hard to make a good knife, the right geometry, the right heat treat, the right feel for the intended use of that blade takes a lot of knowledge and experience to master. but that’s one of the things that i love about bladesmithing is that there is always something to learn or improve on.

About Me

My name is Mike, I’m that headless guy up at the top of this page with the horror movie inspired apron. I like long walks on the beach… wait wrong bio. I’m currently an apprentice with the American Bladesmithing society, hoping to become a Journeyman smith once i can take the performance test. Since I was a kid I’ve been really interested in bladed weaponry, where it originated, how it was made, everything to do with sharp objects. So when i met a knife-maker at a bowfishing competition in 2017, (i know this story is all over the place) I figured wow normal people really can do this stuff and started going down rabbit holes of a surprisingly wide range of things. I started knife-making thru stock removal and then very shortly moved to forging a few months later. My favorite type of blades to forge are hunting knives and any new knife that I get a challenge out of making and if you take a look at the gallery you can see I like to dabble in a little bit of everything.
